I've already got an auto pedal assembly (the CRX was originally auto so I have the stock one), but I'm not going to bother with that right now. As long as it runs and I don't mess up my body work

News: Wasted some money on tools. Losing sockets is really a pain in the butt.

Also, the axles aren't the same, the insight has thinner splines on the hub side. Any ideas for me? Will post pictures with some conjecture later!

It would make maintenance a lot easier to just weld the axles to the hubs

What combination of parts are you trying to use?

I"m guessing you're using the CRX knuckles, the Insight CV axles, right?

So the Insight's CV axles won't fit in the CRX's hubs, which was to be expected... have you disassembled the shaft yet, to see if any combination of the bearings/shaft will go together to get what you want?

If not, my only other suggestion is either custom axles (expensive) or a machinist to weld the Insight tranny side to your CRX's hub side. (Also expensive, but not usually so bad.)

If the Insight's hub splines are significantly smaller, you might also be able to have a machinist grind you up a slip-in adapter from the old CRX hub side splined ends (put another set of splines inside the CRX's splined ends).

If you have the Insight's hubs, take them and your CRX hubs to a machinist and have them pressed apart, then compare the hub's race diameter for each one. He may just be able to lathe down the Insight's hubs to fit in the CRX's knuckles, or if the Insight's hubs are smaller than the CRX's, you may be able to get custom bearings to take up the slack. You'd have to talk to a machine shop for any of those options, though.

I was hoping to use the insight axles with the CRX knuckles. We'll see how disassembling the CV joints goes, but I might be able to use the CRX axles. I'll show you a picture soon of how they enter the transmission to get your opinion on using the crx axles.

I would prefer the insight axles though since they are like twigs by comparison.

!!!

Idea: I know the HF hubs and axles are smaller than the crx dx/si stuff...I wonder if it's smaller matching the Insight...Hm! Need to find a comparison of the HF stuff

HF hubs are smaller, yes. I'll look up the spline count in a few mins, though. You can count the Insight's hub side splines, maybe they line up. If so, I've got a couple HF hubs here, too. (They might need new bearings, they were sitting in the dirt in the barn for gods know how long.)

You can take them, just bring some scrap to replace them with. :P

EDIT: It appears that the spline counts for Si, DX, LX, EX are 26 hub side, and the spline count for HF/Std are 23.

I'll be back in a minute with counting done! It would be easier to find someone to just swap me whole knuckles, if anyone has a lead for me! (pending the count)

They are the whole knuckles. One is still attached, one has half a steering rack still attached to it. (It broke while I was dragging the car out of the barn.)

I'm fairly certain they still have the HF brakes and calipers (which you won't want, they're smaller) on them. You'll have to finish pulling one off the car (should only be the tie-rod holding it on.) Or I can, some day while I"m over there.

You don't have to swap me knuckles, either. Just take them, they're yours. They still have axles in them, too... I don't think the axles are any good, but they're there.

Yatta! 23. I suppose that means the HF/STD junk will fit. Anyone have whole knuckles for me? I don't feel like the expense of having junk pressed etc, and I know people don't like the hf stuff so I feel like it'll be cheap...Not that I know for sure that it works yet but it sounds like it ought to, eh
