Yeah short (6.4mi) commute. Bigger engine. No EOC. No block heater. I think I'm shifting too early because it really hits its stride around 2500-3000.

What kind of RPM's does it take to DFCO?

Yea that commute is killing it plus the really cold weather. Around 1000-1200 is when I see it. Anything lower and the injectors start working. Also since installing my afr gauge I've noticed dfco doesn't work as well when it's cold. It requires a higher rpm maybe 1500 so i drop to a lower gear

Just a fyi on things I have noticed with my corolla.... Been doing a lot of small trips similar to yours, and my tank average was 33mpg vs "normal" lately being 36-38mpg. Summer is 40-45+.

Just hitting low 30s is boosting my MPG a lot vs 20s, really amazing at the change for my car. Also my DEFO in the automatic cuts off the injectors from pretty much any speed over 30mph, and kicks on the injectors at around 25mph, somewhere around 1200 rpm i would say. If you have the ROOM and traffic permits, coasting in neutral (atleast in my case) is slightly better than DEFO, but DEFO is 100x better if the coast distance is restricted in any way. I target to get to corners at 25mph or less, normally around 20 so I can basically do a rolling stop if safe and no cops .

Don't do that. It not worth it, and it's stupid.

I drive into work @ midnight, there is no one on the road and most corners are farm fields. I still hit the brakes and slow dow to around 5-10mph, but legally is a full stop for a solid second which 99.999% of people don't follow. I guess I wasn't very clear in my post, the 20mph thing is for corners with no stop required, 20mph + brakes for stop corners.

Totally gotcha. My current job requires me to drive in at 4:50am and basically no one is anywhere. Same deal... doing that when there is any traffic is pretty dumb. (especially when any set of headlights could be a cop... $125 ticket iirc)

Tried some DFCO today. Don't know if it's working until I get instrumentation.

Yup. Mpguino would probably be the cheapest, or some kind of indicator light hooked to injector circuit somehow. Not sure of anybody has tried it yet

I personally have an Ultra Gauge (well 2 of them and a scan gauge), something like $55 or 60 for a new one. It don't show the DFCO very well, but you can watch the O2 sensor and see when it drops to 0 that it isn't burning any fuel (flooded with O2).

The scan gauge would read 9999mpg when my DFCO was on, Ultra Gauge it isn't setup by default, never monkeyed with it to get it to indicate.

I was planning on having a techie friend build an MPGuino and maybe still will if I can install it easily by myself. But now that I'm SURPRISE moving out of state I may have to find another solution. Anyway, kill switch is first priority before leaving. Detroit's not known for being safe.

Does UltraGauge work on OBD0?
