Watch for it to be loosing coolant by percolating out of the overflow tank or as steam in the exhaust...

Overheating can quickly lead to a head gasket failure even if it wasn't the cause of the overheating. Watch the temps like a hawk until you get it sorted out. Hopefully it's just something simple like a thermostat.

The overheating symptoms you described, 5000 RPM in second climbing a grade in heavy traffic are a good indication that the radiator is not flowing properly. A good radiator shop can check the radiator with a laser digital thermometer and determine if the radiator is truly the problem, but it could also be an air pocket in the cooling system that has not been properly bled. It could be other things but those two are the prime suspects, based on my experience.

I have to say, I quite like "Unnamed Insight"...
Maybe it's my flight of fancy but it make me think of "So it wasn't a stork!", to name but one insight that's better left unnamed...

Ah, dont mind me. Enjoy the car.
The first gen has that magic, that makes you happy just knowing someone who cares buys one.
I can hardly imagine what it must be like to own one myself Not likely to happen, sadly, due to lack of space and dough and the rarity of the breed over here (only 3 of them were ever registered in my country...)

Ah, a connaiseur!
I actually did look at the A2 in 3L spec, but that too was rare and in demand, and the oncoming road tax laws for diesels would make it expensive anyhow. But it could be the family car with reasonable boot space, something the Lupo just hasn't.

I coudn't get nor use the first gen Insight. The second gen serves me well though.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys!

@OldMechanic, I'm going to go to the dealership today and buy some of the official Honda coolant, along with some honda MTF. I'll bleed the system properly and if the overheating happens again, I'll take it to a shop. I'm watching temps with my UG very carefully, I have it set to set off an extremely high pitched alarm if the coolant reaches 210F.

Anyway, I swapped the rims from the Civic to the Insight today and WOW! It looks sooooo much better! The tire size is bigger (185/65R14 instead of 185/60R14) but that's ok, these tires are just temporary until I can get some RE92's.

The rear skirts aren't going back on just yet, I'm gonna get an alignment done along with a repair done to one of the studs, it completely stripped out at the tip.

If you are tearing apart the cooling system make sure the flush the radiator backwards. If the previous owner used some stop leak it could have clogged the rad and might contribute to your over heating issue. Heater core should be back flushed as well. Both can be done without pulling the thermostat which you'd have to do to flush the block. All this is under the assumption that you are flushing with a garden hose and not using a rad flush type additive product. Congrats on the purchase!

I'll use a garden hose to flush the radiator, how do I flush the heater core...? As a matter of fact, how do I flush the system at all? Haha.

Anyway, I took my car to the tire place and they don't fix studs there, so it will have to get done tomorrow. The vibration is 100% gone. I was right in assuming the non-balanced tire was causing it. I actually gained mileage with the bigger tire oddly enough, but I'm having to use more assist to get up to speed. I'll get RE92's once I get an alignment done and the overheating issue addressed.

On my way to the tire shop, it's 100F outside right now, and the coolant never got about 203F. Even at taking off up a hill. Just saying.
