I signed up for Wordpress recently, but I don't know what it is I signed up for.

Just wanted a place I could publicly post my thoughts and reference later. Seems complicated though, so I haven't investigated further.

This seems right to me. The meat is about 2/3rd through.

I'd say the penultimate minute, then for the last minute he rides it into the ground. Stoking and then harvesting psychic energy sounds vampiric but today we find ourselves wandering in a hall of mirrors.

You can have your Orwell and Hitler. This is what defined my Overton window. I'm only five minutes in and it's covered roller-skating carhops and the classic 'little magazine' covers.

I was on the streets of Salem, OR, every Friday night my senior year in high school.

Robt. William's books starting with Visual Addiction defined the 1990s for me.

I’ve spent a few Friday nights cruising “the gut” in Salem. I hear it used to be Lancaster, then it shifted to Commercial.

I doubt today’s youth knows about the gut, or cares to even drive (or park).

At that time it was out Portland Road. Past the fairgrounds and under the railroad, there was a drive-in on the East side*. I don't remember the turn downtown — all the streets have changed.

*Pretty sure it was Woodroffe's San-Shop

https://www.amazon.com/Woodroffes-Sa.../dp/B07VVT9PV9

But I can't confirm the address. They had custom show cars cruising through there. I was in my father's bread truck, or my Studebaker.

We would drive a friend's father's red Valiant station wagon to the end of the [¼-mile] driveway, jack it up and crank the torsion bars down, cruise into town and back and then jack it up to raise it for the driveway.

(If I had that Studebaker today, it would have a third [5¾"] headlight and 1956 Golden Hawk [fiberglass] tailfins.)

Makes me think about what country might happen to be a reference for Russians when it comes to somewhat odd approaches to random issues.

I thought this is a good backgrounder on Space Weather. For instance at ~9 minutes I learned about the Current Ring I'd been hearing about. The local effect of a CME depends on the rocks underfoot, and N-S power lines are more vulnerable than E-W.
