Ok, here's the pictures. Too bad they must be shrunk so that the forum accepts them. Pain in the butt. I included some detail shots in case anyone wanted to copy me. All measurements were by mark 1 eyeball. I see that led to a few problems, like the rail on top covers the opening a little tiny bit. Also I could have extended the cut farther to the passenger side a bit too. I'm happy with it for now.
I also included a few pics of the wire I bent to secure the door. It's actually pretty snug, and doesn't really need the wire. If it ever loosens up though it'll be a life saver. I aligned the corrugations of the door and the rail.
It's really stinkin cold here now so she's sealed right up. Drove like a 'normal' person yesterday to test and did not rise over 194F over an hour long drive including city and highway. With EOC pulse and glide will now stay 188.

Well the heat shrink film was not the way to go. It's been perforated by road grit and is starting to peel off on one side. I'll make one out of coroplast and paint it just like the lower but without any opening. Have some warm weather right now so it'll be not too rough to work out there. It's going above freezing in a few days. Wow!

Very nice job!
The later version front clip you have is easier (I think) to make a cover for than my earlier '97 version. But that doesn't make my setup any prettier! I hope to have another try at the main cover panel in early spring.

Ok, made the replacement for the wimpy heat shrink plastic upper grille block. If I had used a much thicker plastic it might have held up but nothing is easily available. I went with tried and true election signs.
Once the weather warms a bit I'll paint it. Don't want to vent the basement to the outdoors in this. -17C right now going to -27C tonight! (that's -16F)

Ok, got the paint job done. That last post was when the temperatures were still nice. It got colder after that. So I took everything to work and painted there. No worries about ventilation. Looks like we're getting a warm spell for a few days starting tomorrow but here's a pic of the final article in the deep freeze just after a little snow. It's still dark here most of the time. Drive to work in the dark, drive home in the dark. Does the sun really come out?

Looks Good!
Your car shows that eco mods don't have to be ugly.

Well, folks, it's new car time.
I traded the Civic for a 2009 Fit Sport manual. At 44,000 miles it's the newest car I've ever owned. It's also a HUGE step up in utility for me and the family. Having a hatchback is great! Honda did a great job packaging the car, and it seems bigger inside than it is on the outside. MPG is down from the Civic, but it can cover some trips that previously required the Odyssey, so it's a net savings in fuel.
Handling is better. Features (toys) are better. Interior materials aren't as good. It seems they spent money and weight on the chassis and pinched on the interior. I think that's well spent.

I wanted a Fit hybrid (called Jazz over here, God knows why) but this cheap Insight was in the way, so I got that instead. Like both.
I'd like to join Team Honda when I pass 50 mpg consistently. Should be able to, as I already had 60+ mpg commutes to and fro on the same day before the weather turned nasty, and I will keep tweaking with lots of plans for further mods.
For now I feel I would be holding the team back. Hope to fix that and join you soon.
