I have a whole thread showing the process of guys on here helping me test and diagnose the problem: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...mbo-23129.html.
In truth, I suppose there is still a chance it could also be one or both of the front hub bearing units, even though they pass the test. But the trans definitely a problem. It has 200K miles on it, so I got my money out. I figure I'll remove it, rebuild it, experiment with swapping in my VX final drive into the DX tranny. In the mean time, the '93 CX trans will give me back my car.
I'm also curious what benefits the CX trans will give me. It is a 20% reduction in RPMs from my 6th gen DX coupe to the 5th gen CX. At freeway cruise that has to matter.

First fill over 50 MPG
All trips with cold start around or below the freezing point, none longer than 22 miles, even having done a lot of short runs in town... With better weather and longer trips approaching fast this can only get better
I did put my tire pressure up again, to 3 bar or 44 psi all round. It does have an impact.

The cx trans is the same final drive as the vx. I'm turning 2100 or so rpm at 65.

Hope you can get your transmission woes fixed without too much hassle, though it sounds like a big hassle already.
Just installed a voltmeter to monitor my battery voltage as I do have a rather long commute. Once the temperatures plummeted it got very easy to drain the battery before I arrived at work. Now I don't let it drop below 50% before switching back to engine on gliding.

Just did a new fill. Better number. See log. Today marks two years registered on EM. Lots of cash saved. Lots of stuff learned. Thanks!

Congrats on 2 successful years! Thanks for all the info you've shared.
---
I'm back from spending 2 months on Canada's west coast. Came back to a flat tire on the UFO, and of course the hybrid pack is way out of whack after sitting unused that long. May pull it and cycle the cells again. I'm currently making a nicer upper/lower grille block for the car. Should have that done this week or next weekend.
Bad (and good) news is: there's a full tank of gas in the car. I probably won't be filling up again for quite a while.

Wait, hybrids sitting for a long time is a bad thing?? Uh oh, I think I'm trouble.

Well I think coroplast as a grille block material in sub zero temps is a bust. Mine is perforated in multiple locations from road sand being kicked up into it. I'm not sure how it would do in warmer locations. It'll do for now, but I'll be looking to replace it before next winter.
Speaking of winter, sorry about the low numbers guys. We've been hit with yet another snow storm. Today I drove 97km of road that could have just as well been a curling rink. Yikes!

Temps are warming up. Today we went above freezing for the first time this year! My grille block door was all the way open and I had to still turn up the heat and full fan to keep the radiator fan from coming on. Methinks I have to enlarge the hole a wee bit.
