How old is your in-law's house that it only has a 30 amp panel? My research says that is pre-1950's tech. Even my 1943 duplex has been upgraded to 100 amp service on each side.

Apparently about 1965 100 amp service became standard and today 200 amp is pretty standard.

Technically you only have to upgrade when the number of circuits exceeds the listed number on your breaker box.
My main panel was full and to add welding circuits, car charger circuit, solar panel grid tie I added a sub panel.

Shoot, even the house I grew up in from the 1890s had 100 amp service. Of course, it had to have been installed sometime later.





Notice that subpanel added for a dryer and the barn. I'm older than that panel. It had fancy breakers instead of fuses.

That's been my assumption, but it seems our opinion is the minority. Most people expect the market will just jump from ICE to BEV.

Either they're already brainwashed by the mainstream media and politics who insist on pointing out the ICE as if it was the devil, or they're so used to rely on apps and car rentals at travel destinations where they would go by ICE-powered aircraft...

I started installing a retractable screen on the front door today. 30min install it said. It took me 30 minutes to figure out why the pieces wouldn't slide together and then to file the rail to finally get it to clear the obstruction. Setting that project aside, I started assembling a hitch mounted motorcycle carrier. The tolerances on that were also such that the supplied bolts don't work, so I set that project aside. The last thing I need is another project. Certainly not something that looks nice, because I'm just going to use the thing hard.

Not trying to be rude but...

Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one's prior beliefs or values.

This coming from someone who owns a BEV and PHEV (and two gassers). And lives in a neighborhood with a crap ton of Teslas... I can literally throw a rock from my driveway and hit 5-6 houses with Teslas.


Adoption of EV's is going to be way slower across the population than some of the estimates mentioned here. Even with considering automaker estimates (dont forget they include fleet sales) and government incentives & economy/carbon regulations.
