Nice mileage!

Don't compromise! If you can drive around without petroleum, why would you ever choose to support it?

My scan gauge is also pretty worthless. If your commute is exactly the same every day it can give you directional information though (improvement vs decrease, etc).

Only reason I'd use petro is because I can accurately measure consumption . . ..

There is absolutely nothing regular about my driving . . . .

Refueled today.

Not very exciting, I'll do a 70 -75 MPH one soon.

My Scanguage seems to work pretty well. I can throw it off if I do a lot of coasting in neutral though. I think there may be an additional sensor (O2 ??) in the PD engine. Perhaps that allows it to be more accurate.
I can't think of a good way to do accurate testing without using the petro pumps. I'm glad it's working out for you. I am considering the 5th gear swap to lower highway rpms.

That pretty much matches my top gear RPM vs speed. What car did the original box come from ?

My tuner just (well, last week) notified me that my MAF is beginning to fail, that may/ may not be the issue.

Essentially if I do light loads my fuel consumption is crazy low (300 indicated mpg at 30 MPH) and I am still around 35~40 mpg indicated at 75 mph, I just calibrated it to what seems reasonable to me, and ignore it. I do however now own a MFA (factory fuel consumption computer) that I need to swap in. Anybody have any VagTacho experience?

Time for an update:
I recoded my speedometer to match the 6 speeds pickup wheel. Basically I just changed the final value of the instrument cluster from 4 to 2 (I **THINK** If you need this info hit me up and I'll verify).

Mileage seems about the same however I now drive as fast as I can get away with on the highway (so say + 10MPH). Maybe eventually I'll have a highway trip without nagging passengers and set a new bar . . . . That said I appear to get 48~52 MPG at 77~78 MPH which however you scratch it is not bad.

Now I really want some Aero Mods to get in to the Mid 50's at speed. First order of business, full under tray second order of business Kamback Realistically, that is it.

No sure if those instant MPGs are accurate. My 6sp Fabia hovers about 40-45 MPG instant at 75-80 on the flat - not that there is much flat here in Scotland so it is hard to tell. Those MPGs are imperial. I would estimate a bigger and heavier Golf being worse assuming the same gearing.

Having tapped that I have the 130 PD engine which vs the 90 would be thirstier. I'm charging my handheld DV so I can do an equivalent Video for comparison. It would be useful to get a match with another 6sp TDI.

I'm also thinking of a rate my driving video so people can tell me how carp my technique is

Dremd, I just did a big interstate highway trip with passengers, luggage, AC on and the Scanguage says I got 55 mpg and averaged 57 mph for 250 miles and max speed of 95 yesterday! I did some steady interstate cruising at 75-80. I filled up part way through the vacation and got 55 for the tank so I think the Scanguage is pretty close. I just installed a coroplast belly pan and took photos so I will try to start a post soon. Seat-of-the-pants-ometer shows better coasting and perhaps better instant mpg. I hear you about nagging passengers. My wife was really ready to be home yesterday. I need taller gears!
