There is something wrong with my exhaust, possibly resulting from me taking apart everything to replace my oil pan. Someone said I had a cracked manifold and exhaust hit the manifold when I accelerated, but the welder said that my manifold was not cracked, although it was not flat, either. All of the bolts seem tight.

Could an exhaust leak affect drivability? I am about to order the O2 sensor because I have too much going on right now to spend a day diagnosing my car.

What is the actual issue?

That being said, I got the car to fire up last night. I have an oil leak, but didn't have time to figure it out.

I'll second Daox... and say that the HX O2 sensors are expensive. Don't buy a new one if you don't know that you need it. You could be out a few hundred and still have the same problem. What's the actual issue.

Also, congrats on the starting LX, Daox. I'm sure you'll find that bummer leak in no time. I hope it is very simple to stop.

It took a while to start up which isn't unusual after sitting for so long and everything being taken apart in my experience. Once it fired up and kept running, it ran real smooth for the few seconds I let it run until finding the oil leak. Actually, there were two leaks. One out of the camshaft plug area (I misplaced the dumb part and its on order), and one near the crank pulley which doesn't look to be a tiny leak... I'll know more when I get a bit more time with it.

So, I was able to find the oil leak... its coming from the head gasket area. I'm going to double check my head bolt torques, and if thats good I'll probably remove the head again, double check flatnesses and throw a new gasket on. The one that is on there now is from the first time I reinstalled the head and torqued it down to find the stuck valve.

Doh!

I've got mine back together... took it for a quick spin and I'm leaking coolant and oil too. However, I think mine is from the steering rack, which has been leaking for a while and my fix apparantly didn't fix it.

Make sure you get the air pockets out of the coolant. It can be a pain, but you don't want to overheat and have to do the head gasket one more time.

My oil pan leak is from the crank pulley area. I sure hope it does not turn out to be the crank pulley seal. It did not look that way to my eyes, but my eyes are relatively untrained. What a mistake that would be, to have been in there doing the timing belt and neglect to replace the leaking gasket. I guess mistakes cannot be avoided for the shade tree mechanics! Good luck! Watching with interest as always.

What a waste of time the past month has been. I pulled the head, replaced the gasket, put it back on, the oil leak was still there. However, I found out it wasn't coming from the head gasket area. Instead, it was coming from where the camshaft seal was supposed to be. Apparently my head resurfacer guy removed the seal and never replaced it. *sigh* I put a new one in and voila, no oil leak. Yay.

I haven't gotten it fully reassembled yet, but its a good way there. I got it far enough to try and start it up (wasn't going to reassemble everything if there were still any leaks), it fires up every time but it doesn't say running. Not sure what is going on quite yet.

That's a lot of work to sort out a simple problem. Oh well, should be good now, right?

The guy that rebuilt my head removed the seal too. But, it was overdue to be replaced anyways. At least he told me he did so.
