Oh yeah. "We'll put the tomatoes right here. Try not to till under the peonies, they're pretty enough to keep."

"Where are we going to put the clothesline, then?"

"Right here. What, you expect the tomatoes to get seven feet tall?"

She's not just energy efficient, she's space efficient too. I'm sorry to hear all you bellyachers have had such bad experiences. I married the smartest person I've ever met; I just got lucky she's attractive too.

I think if we ran this poll on a site that was 95% women, we'd see similar things but flipped the other way. I also think if we ran a "are women good drivers" poll we'd see that most men don't think so, even though the insurance companies have pretty good numbers showing they are,

That said, I think women are more efficient...men often show their power by wasting..."Listen to my v8 roar" type of attitude.

You've only got to find one! I don't recommend picking one at random.

I would have to agree with SVOboy that in general women are more efficient than men, maybe not more efficient than the odd fellows here, but there are an awful lot of women driving economy cars and alot of men driving pickups...

Most women have very little "Mechanical Empathy." That's the term we coined on BITOG. So often, they don't sense what they are doing with a piece of equipment is wasteful or abusive.

And we all know how popular thinking is these days.

I saw a woman a couple months ago in a Walmart parking lot. She was in an older, black Ford F-150 and she was waiting for a family to get their stuff together and pull out of a spot right up front. This was taking a while. I pulled around this whole scene and parked towards the back of the lot. I then walked into the store and there was this clueless woman still waiting, still idling her truck waiting for this 'premium' spot to open up.

Some people don't have the sense of a common dog.

You're probably right regarding some issues. However, people reading and posting tend to be hyper-efficient. Studies show time and again that CFL lights are bought mostly by men because they are efficient and rejected by women because they don't like the color of the light. Do women care about being efficient? Sure, but not at the expense of a whole lot of other things not related to efficiency (generalizations of course). Therefore, hyper-efficient people tend not to be females.

It's feeling versus thinking.

Women tend to be right brained ... they say they care, the vote for the gov't to give 'free' things to people and they say they care about the environment, etc ... many are also self-centered and won't do anything for the environment if it means extra work or the slightest discomfort ...

So, if you want a problem solved, you need to give it to a thinker, not some hopeless feeler ... and that, more often than not, means a man.

That's why environmentally-related bulletin boards are dominated by men. The boards involving problem solving through yoga, meditation, reading self-help books or power-through-song therapy are where you will find the women.

As for my redneck bretheren, there are fewer and fewer of them buying ridiculous tires for their massive trucks. $4 gas has something to do with it. They're learning ... albeit slowly. The difference is the clueless bimbos won't learn at all.

All tendencies, of course.

Actually, I didn't vote. I don't have enough experience to be able to say. My mom drives a Jeep, but she's a conservative driver and carpools with my dad. Result: neutral to slightly on the good side.

My sister in DC doesn't like to drive; she takes the subway. As to any other habits, since she started college I have no observations. My sister in Boston works in a different city, so she's on the down side. Between the two of them, I'd vote neutral.

My wife you already know about in nauseating detail.
Grandma grew up farming with horses and lighting her house with oil. She picks the easiest route every time, turns off lights every time. She drives a dinky little old econobox. She's solidly on the good side.

That's the pool I'm observing. That's not enough for me to go making sweeping declarations.
