It doesn't drop off that much. 7% less power at 45C vs 30C. Arizona has world class sun and big daytime cooling peaks. Perfect situation for Solar PV. There are also big federal incentives for new grid scale solar. 30% refund and a $0.03/ kWh feed in tariff.
.
Why does Arizona have almost no solar? And gets most of it's electricity from coal? Along with exporting coal electricity for 20% of California's demand.

Its not just air temperature.
The panels get way hotter than the air.
I bet they are hitting at least 150 degrees F during the peak of the day.

This is why I want at least some on trackers so the panels can get full sun while it's still around 60 degrees F when the sun first comes up.

'what we have'

Rebuildables can power "A" human society. Just not this one. 17 TeraWatts and growing (for now).

Very concise and pulling no punches weekly essay by Martenson today on the subject of the impending liquid fuel depletion. Wise scientists and forward thinkers have been warning us about this for 60 years but our time blind and reward hungry stone age brains subconsciously refuse to accept it.

My argument would be that 'what we have' is not set in stone. It's not an 'absolute.'
If we went to war against ourselves,we'd do exactly what we've done in war times before.
The White House would go on television and declare a national emergency, severely curtail all non-essential energy use, probably set up rationing, and FEMA would set up refugee camps for the tens of millions now unemployed and homeless.Untold consumer product and service corporations would vaporize.
Certain war-essential industries would be nationalized, and fire departments dispatched to catch all the businessmen jumping from the 14th-floor.
Americans cannot distinguish between 'need' and 'want.'
Within 72-hours they'd have the 'lesson.'
Even if there was no such thing as climate change,we'd have to engineer for a world without hydrocarbons. We're beyond peak-oil.There's peak-coal,Peak-Methane,Peak-uranium,........................And we're still breeding.

The satellite used to chart the ice.
Compare now to winter of 1980 and they are pretty much the same. Draw your own conclusions.
But very curiously no one is reporting this....
I guess it's really, really good news, or really bad news depending on who you are.
I looked at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory's website a couple weeks ago.It is their GRACE satellites that are monitoring the ice conditions.
They say that ice loss is accelerating at both poles.
There's 'new' ice,but it's thin and doesn't last long when the next summer season hits.Conservative estimates say Arctic blue ocean event' likely by Summer 2030.
AccuWeather.com and PBS Television are the only 'broadcast' networks to even mention anything about it that I know of.

I confess that I'm being optimistic about batteries, like John Goodenough's battery (glass sodium), and the polemic about it appears imposible. I ask myself now :
Why a man of his reputation and fame, creator of battery we all use today, would at 95 years old throw away he image and respect he conquest among scientific comunity, why would he made hinself ridiculous, realesing a complete hoax ???
And it's not just hin, it's a entire team of researchers from a very respectable universiy.
There must be at least some true about his battery.

Could you please write up a brief synopsis of the presentation?
I get one day a week where I can hear audio, and a 1-hour video can take me up to 3-hours to go through to do a transcript. They're killing me!

There's no need to wage a war.

We're not beyond peak oil.

The rate of population growth has been in decline, and will continue to do so, perhaps even drastically (my theory with VR porn and growing nonsense about there being no biological distinction between men and women).

If we gradually increased oil consumption, we can gradually move away from it. War not necessary. What you propose would cause a civil war, not just a war on business. Me and millions of Americans would not allow an authoritarian state.

If we watched it for 200 years we may find that 15% ice coverage change is perfectly normal.
Can you be more specific? I'm unsure who the obsessing people are and the 40-year sample chronology.

runaway greenhouse effect

You understand albedo,and heat absorbtion,heating,and increased heating,and increased melting,and increased absorbtion,heating,ad infinitum?
It takes 144-Btu worth of sunshine to melt one pound of heat-reflecting 32F ice into 32F-degree water.
Once the ice is gone, the same 144-Btu worth of sunshine will warm that same pound of 32F heat-absorbing dark water to 144F water.
This newly-warmed water melts the surrounding ice from all contact surfaces at the same time summer air temperatures melts if from the top.
Shallow Arctic Ocean mixing brings heat down to submerged frozen Methane hydrates, releasing Methane gas, which is 20-times more powerful as a greenhouse gas, warming the atmosphere even more.
It's a self-reinforcing feedback loop that runs away.
And it's hard to put the genie back in the bottle.
It's directly measurable.
