Not being able to get out of California would give me anxiety, for sure.

Come on oil pan. You can come up with a better argument than that. You know that gasoline powered cars lose range also. I'll admit it might only be 12% compared to an EV's 20% at freezing but everything vehicle has it's use.

California governor Newsom , Oregon governor Brown and state fire marshall are pathetic and worthless.
You guys keep repeating the same things about California's fires. Why are you not holding the federal government to the same standard. They own and manage nearly 60% of the forests in California through the Bureau of Land Management. See, it's right in their name. They have at least as much responsibility as does the state.

As for how long the wildfires have been happening it's much longer than 30 years. I remember reading about them back in the sixties in grade school. The middle of the country has major floods every couple years, the gulf coast has hurricanes every year, and the East coast has major snowstorms yearly. They are all forces of nature. Some can be mitigated more easily than others if you have enough money to throw at it. And as always, money is the bottom line.

Not sure about the United States, but in other countries it's not totally uncommon to see agricultural machinery licensed in order to grant them access to public roads. On a sidenote, I won't hold my breath to see an American farmer actually willing to drive something like this on the road instead of a traditional truck if that was the only way to get an ICE-powered "vehicle".

Gasoline is available everywhere and takes minutes to refill the gas tank. Most useful in long distance driving.

Let's suppose an eventual attempt to phase fossil fuels out becomes successful, it wouldn't surprise me if farmers started resorting to moonshine once again, just like some of them did in the Ford Model T days. For lube I guess Castor oil would be OK, also considering Castrol brand refers to the presence of it on the earliest formula even though nowadays it's not the case. Targetting the ICE is not as easy as it could seem, not only because of its widespread presence but also due to its ability to resort to biomass-based fuel and lube while otherwise some biofuel feedstocks could become an environmental nightmare if they were simply thrown away as garbage instead of being given a better destination.

banning gas powered cars

The U.S electrical grid is antiquated and broken down, and can't even supply basic service when everyone is drawing on it. Depending on that system to provide power for millions of electric cars is insane.
Most all electric power is produced by burning fossil fuels, so turning to all electric will only cause more pollution and taxing power plants. Transporting electric current thru transmission lines is very inefficient.
When our transportation or any industry is dependant on one source of power, it increases vulnerability of foreign attack. Simply knocking out our power plants would totally paralyze our transportation industry.

Transmitting power is fairly efficient. For 2017 something like 9% of all the electricity generated went to grid losses
That's likely to increase as California imports nearly all the electricity when coming from sources that don't fit their failed green ideas.
Also there is more push to install wind. Every wind farm starts off with about an additional 1% of transformer losses since the wind turbines generate power at 480v then step it up to around 20,000v.
Same thing goes for solar. Most installs start out around 240 to 480v.
