FWIW, 2018 was a record year for Ivanpah with almost 800 GWh produced.
Not what they would have gotten if they had spent 2 billion on PV panels, but at least it is progressing.

The progress is remarkable to me,and it makes me more optimistic about our future prospects.
I hope the rest of the world will forgive the portion of the United States' population which is functionally chimpanzee.
Winston Churchill used to say that war was a way to teach Americans geography.I fear that if he were alive today, that he'd have a corollary with respect to us and climate change.
We landscape while the house burns down.

Gridscale community solar farms are buying in for $2.15 in my area right now. So the $2 billion would buy about 1 GW nameplate. The capacity factor for upstate NY is not quite 14%. So $2 billion would buy 1,200 GWh/ year here. But many days near zero for three months in the winter when electric heat is needed. But solar is receiving big incentives for home dwellers with an electric bill which get a "meter runs backwards" full credit for production and 55% of the installation in an income tax refund.

Tim Pool quotes the LA Times:

Climate change X people who refuse to live indoors. He's taken a pretty black pill:

so here's the thing people talk about
climate change but III
posit this if climate change really will
bring about some like bubonic plague and
that wipes out a massive amount of human

correcting for the planet

It may be easier to wipe out humanity than to change its behavior.
Unless politicians and mainstream media stop denying science.

I think humanity is more resilient than that, but a good smack upside the head isn't out of the question.

It's asserted by people like Scott Adams that we live in a post-fact world. That the only thing that steers public opinion is persuasion.

Blame social media. Public opinion is suffering decohesion.

The capacity factor is running at 21%. So the actual pricing is more like $25/ Watt.
.
But it does supply electricity for a few hours after dark due to the thermal storage.

Everybody::: Please speak in truths. Fact check your information. Wishful thinking that is not based on actual data and science is spinning us astray.
Take that cost out over time. No fuel = lower and lower cost over time.

"To power the world". I have shown you over and over again based on real world data, this is complete nonsense to keep putting these in front of people. It breeds complacency and ill will because then they think that we would have it made if we would only choose to put up some solar and wind and also the just puts the blame on "evil. rich. white, oil barons" for keeping us from a simple choice.
.
It is not so simple.
