Gridscale community solar farms are buying in for $2.15 in my area right now. So the $2 billion would buy about 1 GW nameplate. The capacity factor for upstate NY is not quite 14%. So $2 billion would buy 1,200 GWh/ year here. But many days near zero for three months in the winter when electric heat is needed. But solar is receiving big incentives for home dwellers with an electric bill which get a "meter runs backwards" full credit for production and 55% of the installation in an income tax refund.

It breeds complacency and ill will because then they think that we would have it made if we would only choose to put up some solar and wind and also the just puts the blame on "evil. rich. white, oil barons" for keeping us from a simple choice.

I worked in technical sales for 15 years. Insulting people does nothing toward changing their mind. Culture and technology are influenced greatly by geography. What works in El Paso, TX does not necessarily work in Buffalo, NY. Our best options here include hydroelectric power and wood products.
